“Everything but work.” Remote workers take their responsibilities lightly

“Everything but work.” Remote workers take their responsibilities lightly

Dusting, walking the dog and roasting chicken - these and other things that home office workers seem to squeeze in between (or instead of) their professional duties. This worries employers. According to data from the Freelancehunt platform, companies are turning to external workers. They have increased their budgets for this purpose by a record 51.5 percent.

The employed themselves admit that when working from home, business meetings are interspersed with those with friends. In an anonymous Freelancehunt survey, they also admit to cleaning, walking the dog, shopping, repairing a bike, cooking dinner, playing with children, meditating and learning a new language.

- I would add other remote worker activities to this list, which in itself is not problematic, as long as the tasks are carried out effectively. However, such a model requires taking into account the specifics of the work, the maturity of the teams and the organization, and defined result metrics, because timely results are key for business - comments Bartłomiej Grygowicz, delivery manager and business analysis mentor.

As it turns out, there is no need to work “empty” hours at work, as long as the tasks assigned for a given day are completed. The most important thing is to clearly define goals, set an appropriate time for their completion and enforce the results. Then the fact whether the team works from home or from the office is irrelevant.

- Working in an office, despite the appearance of greater control over the employee, does not necessarily have to be associated with greater efficiency - emphasizes Oleg Topchiy, founder of Freelancehunt.

This in turn causes the freelancing market to grow dynamically. The record increase in freelancing budgets in Poland reached 51.5%, while in the whole of Central and Eastern Europe budgets increased by 26%. The number of clients in the region increased by 11.6%, and the number of freelancers increased by 14.4%. Most importantly, over 97% of projects are implemented without any disputes.
